Red Tree 2 canvas on stretcher, framed in black, to be shown with Red Tree 1 face to face or side by side
Original title: Arbre rouge 2 toile sur chassis encadré noir, à exposer avec Arbre rouge 1 en face à face ou côte à côte
A red trunk and a blue trunk answer each other in a cascade of leaves, against a luminous yellow ground.
€0
Two large trunks face each other against a bright yellow ground. One, a deep blue-green, leans to the left. The other, a dense red, extends an arm towards the centre. Between them, pale foliage in white, grey-blue and green falls in a cascade, like light filtered through the branches.
The surface is worked in layers, with scraped areas and transparencies that let the colours beneath show through. One senses a silent conversation between the two trees. The artist suggests showing it with Arbre rouge 1, face to face or side by side, which would extend this exchange onto your wall.
Ambiance & interior
This canvas will sit well on a light wall, off-white or beige, facing natural light that makes the yellow and the red vibrate. It will bring energy to a living room, an entrance or an office. It will speak with pale wood, linen, a petrol blue or a sage green, and its black frame will give it a clean presence.
Texture & technique
- Mixed media, on canvas stretched over a stretcher frame, with a black frame.
- The red trunk is worked in a textured flat tint, with a visible grain that catches the light.
- Dark contours, drawn with a broad gesture, underline the trunks and the large coloured shapes.
- The foliage seems laid down in repeated motifs, perhaps stencilled, in white, blue and red, on transparent grounds.
- Flat areas of orange, turquoise and violet, with fine cracks in the turquoise band, structure the top of the canvas.
